Following the news of Colin Trevorrow’s departing from Star Wars Episode IX, it has been announced today that J.J. Abrams will now take the helm as director for the third film in the sequel trilogy. Abrams will also be a co-writer for the film with Chris Terrio. Terrio is known for being the writer and for such as Argo, Justice League and Batman v. Superman. 

The news was announced on the official Star Wars website this morning, with a short statement below:

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
