First Look at Black Lives Matter-Inspired Movie ‘The Hate U Give’ Here!
The Hate U Give is an upcoming YA crime/drama movie based on the novel of the same name by author, Angie Thomas. The movie follows a teenage girl (Amandla Stenberg) who witnesses police shoot her unarmed friend and is forced to testify at the trial; the protagonist is ultimately drawn towards activism.
It’s some heavy stuff right? With today’s society and ongoing state of racially motivated attacks and protests, a movie like this is exactly what we need. Recently, we gout our first look at the black excellence that is the cast of the movie. Alongside Amandla Stenberg will be Regina Hall & Russell Hornsbry playing her parents with Lamar Johnson (who was recently cast in X-Men: Dark Phoenix) andĀ TJ Wright as her siblings. Check out the family photo that got Angie Thomas teary-eyed below!

The film has an all-star supporting cast too with the likes of: Issa Rae (Insecure), Common, Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Winter Soldier)Ā Algee Smith (The New Edition Story) and YouTuber, Kian Lawley. George Tillman Jr. (The Longest Ride) is taking on the director helm with writer,Ā Audrey Wells (Under the Tuscan Sun), penning the script. Stenberg hit Instagram a few days ago to share her excitement and revealed that filming has officially began

This is a whole lot of black excellence and I’m confident that the movie will stir up some much-needed conversation about the current state of this nation. I won’t make this a big think piece, but be on the look out for more about this movie!
