‘It’ Premiere Is Recorded As Biggest Horror Movie Opening Ever

The 2017 remake of ‘It’ has not scared off audiences this weekend.

Screenrant reports that latest adaptation of Stephen King’s novel has earned a record-breaking $123 million domestically, with a worldwide total of $185 million. This comes as a surprise for pundits leading up to the film’s release.

Despite that, early box office predictions were rather conservative, with pundits originally expecting it to land around the $60 million mark. It wound up doing that amount in a single day, which launched the expectations up into nine digits. But even those, it seems, were on the safe side; the weekend’s total box office estimations are now in and IT’s a bigger success than anybody expected.

In terms of its R-rating, It comes in second to Deadpool ($132.4 million on its opening) and is now ranking the third highest first-weekend opening, behind Beauty and the Beast and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
