Blizzard is Opening Its Own Esports Arena
Keeping up with the huge growth of esport viewership, Blizzard has announced that they’re opening their own esports arena in Los Angeles. The Blizzard Arena Los Angeles will be opening at Burbank Studios next month.
So far, we don’t know what the completed space will look like, but they provided a few brief details. The arena will be able to hold about 450 spectators, and have multiple sound stages and practice areas, along with a Blizzard merchandise shop.
According to Blizzard, “the arena has been custom-tailored to support the exciting live-event experience for local attendees and broadcast audiences around the world.”
The arena opens officially on October 7, and kicks off with a two day long Overwatch competition, and then a Hearthstone summer championship tournament that starts on October 13. These are the only two games mentioned officially in the press release, so it’s unclear if Blizzard will also be holding competitions for StarCraft or any of its other properties.
