Rumor Alert: Joshua Sasse, John Cena Current Frontrunners for ‘Shazam!’
With director David F. Sandberg confirming that pre-production has begun on the DC Extended Universe movie Shazam!, the names of potential Captain Marvel actors are coming out.
According to a report by That Hashtag Show, WWE superstar/actor John Cena and Galavant leading man Joshua Sasse are the frontrunners for the role.
In addition to Galavant, Sasse has also appeared in Rogue and No Tomorrow.
Cena is a 16 time champion who will next be seen in Daddy’s Home 2 and the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.
Both are said to be sought after based on their comedy chops.
In Galavant, Sasse got to sword fight, do comedy and occasionally break into song, so he would certainly bring a fun quality to the DCEU.

It should also be noted that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is already cast as Captain Marvel’s longtime nemesis Black Adam, and while he isn’t expected to appear in Shazam!, it’s assumed their characters will have to fight at some point.
If Cena is cast, this won’t be a new experience as he and The Rock main evented WrestleMania 28 and 29.

Sandberg is trying for an early 2018 production, for a spring 2019 release.
