Michael Cerveris Joins ‘Gotham’ as Professor Pyg
A new villain will come to Gotham, and at this rate Gordon will age like 10 years in just one season.
Actor Michael Cerveris, better known for his roles in Fringe, as the Observer/September, and in The Tick as Ramses IV, has been chosen to play Professor Pyg during Season 4 of Gotham in a multi-episode arc.
During TVLine‘s Q&A for their Fall Preview, executive producer Danny Cannon revealed this news:
“Michael is one of my best friends. He was in my film school graduation movie, when we were both amateurs. And now he’s joining the fold as Professor Pyg,”
Created by Grant Morrison, appearing for the first time in Batman #666, Professor Pyg, or Lazlo Valentin, is a surgeon who attaches masks from fake doll faces in his patients and performs a variety of medical procedures on them (brain surgery, genital mutilation, etc.) and makes them into mindless soldiers known as “Dollotrons”, who follow his every command.
Season 4 is shaping up to be different than the rest of the show, with the addition of Scarecrow and now Dr. Pyg, as Cannon casually commented that the studio asked them to “tone [the show] back”.
“When the studio asks you to tone back because it’s too scary, you know you’ve done something right!”
