Harrison Wells Goes on an Emotional Journey in ‘The Flash’ Season Four
No actor in the Arrowverse has more of a challenge than Tom Cavanagh.
As The Flash’s Harrison Wells, he finds himself frequently taking on new versions of the character.
In season one he was the evil Eobard Thawne masquerading as Harrison Wells. Season two introduced Earth-2’s Harry Wells, while season three gave fans the completely different HR Wells.

In the season three finale, HR sacrificed himself to save Iris from Savitar. Barry then asked Harry to stick around and help out the team before he went into the Speed Force.
In an interview with EW, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said season four will see Harry trying to figure out his purpose on Earth-1.
“He’s a genius, and his daughter is safe, and she’s The Flash on Earth-3, and he’s one of those people who’s realizing that he doesn’t have a life,” he said. “So season 4 for Harry is really realizing what he’s missing in his life and what it is he needs to become a better, more complete person, and so he’s going to be going on a fairly epic emotional journey this season that is tied to The Thinker’s plan.”

Fans can also look forward to meeting another new Wells. At Comic-Con, Cavanagh told CBR what to expect from season four’s Wells.
“And so this year, we’ve had a different villain and so I think there’s going to be areas that we could use a different Wells,” he said. “We’re going to start with Harry and then find a way, I think, to try and get a different version of Wells in there, be it some version of Harry or whatnot as the season’s gaps present themselves.”
The Flash premieres its fourth season Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 pm on The CW.
