Ladies and gentlemen of the audience… We have our original boy wonder for the upcoming live action series of Teen Titans!

His name is Brenton Thwaites and you most likely know him for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: Death Man Tell No Tales, Gods of Egypt, Maleficent and The Giver.

Titans is the name of this live-action take on the famous team and it’ll follow Dick Grayson in his path to leave Batman’s shadow and became the leader of a band of young, soon-to-be superheroes.

Geoff Johns, executive producer of the show and Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics, said in a statement why Brenton was the best choice for this role:

“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protégé and the Titans future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”

So far, the cast for the upcoming Titans includes Anna Diop as Starfire and Teagan Croft as Raven, with no hints at who could possibly be playing Beast Boy.

It’s important to know that, for the past 15 years or so, Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, aka the original Robin, has canonically been recognized as Romani, which Brenton is not.
