With Spider-Man: Homecoming a bona fide success, Sony and Marvel are trying to keep the creative team together for the sequel.
With that in mind, screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are in final talks to write the sequel.
Director Jon Watts is also in negotiations to helm the follow-up, while leading man Tom Holland is already set to return.
Homecoming tells the story of Peter Parker fighting off the menacing Vulture (Michael Keaton), while trying to impress his mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and balancing regular high school life.
The film is Spidey’s official standalone entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To date the movie has made $737 million worldwide making it the fifth highest grossing Spider-Man film.
Next up, Holland’s Peter Parker will be seen fighting alongside the entire MCU in Avengers: Infinity War, which opens May 4, 2018.
Spider-Man will then return in the Homecoming sequel which is scheduled for release July 5, 2019.
