One of the most iconic X-Men comic-book stories is hitting the big screen again in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix next fall. Last time we saw this story get the movie treatment was in Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand which, as we all know, never even happened because it was THAT bad and I purged it from my memory so what are you even talking about? Though news on the film has been scarce, director and long-time X-Men producer Simon Kinberg spoke on how the film will be handling this massive story that is the Dark Phoenix Saga.

A quote from Total Film Magazine has Kinberg saying, “[We must] find a way to ground it so it’s not too intergalactic”, he says while mentioning how the X-Men movies are known for being “human…”.

After X-Men producer Hutch Parker spoke on the current state of superhero/comic-book movies and the success of Guardians of the Galaxy going intergalactic, one would hope that fans will finally see the space-opera story that is the Dark Phoenix Saga done properly. Kinberg’s recent comments beg to differ though, he made a point in saying that the movie needs to be grounded and not too intergalactic.

I had hoped, prayed and even tweeted that Fox would learn from the success of LoganDeadpool & other comic-book movies and realize that what the fans want is all the craziness that comes in the comics translated seamlessly on the big screen, not something more grounded! I mean you have the Shi’ar Empire rumored to play a role in the movie with Jessica Chastain signing on to possibly play Queen Lilandra, let’s get weird already Fox!

But let’s be real, I’m an X-Men stan and am still here for this movie and will be there opening night with my hopes high, unfortunately. What do you guys think? Is this good or bad news for the upcoming X-Men sequel?

  1. I’m an X-Men stan as well and honestly this news is already justifying what I thought when this was announced…it’s gonna be a let down…The D.P.S. is too deep to contain in just one movie or even three…the legacy of Chris Claremonts writing deserves better…I hate to be a negative Norman but I just don’t think Faux (fox) will ever get a collective X-Men movie right…

  2. […] THE PRESSES! “Co-writer of X-Men: The Last Stand misses point of Dark Phoenix Saga?” My monocle just shattered! He’s gonna remake his own bad movie! Prepare for Jessica Chastain […]

  3. […] interesting news indeed, especially considering Kinberg’s recent comments about making Dark Phoenix “more grounded”. I can’t lie, as crazy as Fox has been with the X-Men movies, […]
