Willem Dafoe Gives Character Details For His Role in ‘Aquaman’
Each day that passes inches us closer to the debut of Justice League, which hits theaters in November. The film will give us another look at Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, while also giving us more than just a tease of Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman. While Flash and Cyborg have a ways before hitting theaters, Aquaman’s solo outing is the next in line. Currently, the film is shooting and one of the film’s stars has decided to shed some light on their character.
Willem Dafoe is no stranger to comic book films. In fact, Dafoe delivered one of the best villainous roles in comic book film history with his take on the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. This is what made fans even more excited to hear he had been cast as the Atlantean, Vulko. Vulko is an Atlantean scientist who will factor into the film in one way or another. While not many details have been released, Dafoe recently decided to open up about the character in an interview with IGN.
Vulko is 100% Atlantean. So that’s different, because [Aquaman] is half-Atlantean and half-human. So they’re quite different and I’m capable of being outside of the water, but mostly it’s underwater. And I’m a guy that’s been around for a while. I have a kind of… let’s call it an armor. It’s a good look, I like it a lot. The day that they show the shot of the character will accomplish more than I can by talking about it now. I like the look very much, and know they released a toy recently. But it doesn’t look so much what I look like [in the film]
While not spilling any major beans, the actor gave us a few things to think about. First, will Vulko being 100% Atlantean make him torn between serving Aquaman (half Atlantean) or serving Ocean Master (full Atlantean). Dafoe is a great villain, and his character Vulko could end up being an evil scientist who serves Orm, or a wise adviser who serves Arthur. Furthermore, they are giving Vulko armor which is a change of pace for his character from the comics. Whether Vulko is a warrior scientist or simply all Atlanteans of a certain status wear armor will be determined. (A picture of the toy displaying Vulko in armor can be seen below)
Luckily fans will not have to wait long to get their first glimpse of Vulko. The character will have a cameo in the upcoming Justice League film which hits theaters November 17, 2017 release date before furthering his role in Aquaman which is set for a December 2018 release.
In the meantime, let us know what you think the future of Vulko is, and if you are excited for Dafoe’s portrayal of the character in the comments section below.
