Oscar Isaac’s New Film is “Very Weird and Very Beautiful”
Annihilation, the new science fiction film directed by Alex Garland, (Ex Machina, Dredd) is the adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s novel of the same name.
The film stars Natalie Portman, who plays a biologist that joins an expedition to a mysterious site, known as Area X, while also seeking what’s behind her husband’s disappearance, played by Oscar Isaac. The cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Tessa Thompson (Thor Ragnarok), and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin).
In a talk with Entertainment Weekly, Isaac revealed that, although he had not seen the movie, he is confident about the result, since it’s not the first time he has work with Alex Garland (they have previously worked together in Ex Machina).
“I’ve not had the pleasure of seeing it yet, but I am certain that it will be very weird and very beautiful. You know, Alex Garland makes completely unique things, and he’s such a visionary, and I think it’s going to be a very powerful film. Maybe not for everyone — but that’s what’s amazing about working with artists like the Coens or Alex Garland, is that they follow their own creative impulses, and that’s, at the end of the day, how they make their decisions, following their own artistry and not making it all about things on the outside, and what’s going to please everyone. It’s so special to get to work with people like that.”
