‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ to Include Other Monsters, Will be a ‘Massive Monster Brawl’
Warner Bros. Godzilla and Kong universe is building to the inevitable showdown between the two giants, however, it now seems that the matchup will feature more than just the headlining monsters.
In an interview with SlashFilm, director Adam Wingard gave a few hints about what fans can expect from the battle of the century.
“Ours is more in continuity with the sequel to Godzilla right now,” he said. “They’re doing Godzilla 2 with Mike Dougherty directing, so our film is in present day.”
With the movie set in the present day, Wingard is excited to revisit Kong after all the time that has passed since Skull Island.

“We have a couple characters from Godzilla 2 in ours, but it’ll be interesting to see how Kong has fared over the years,” he said. “You see him in that film and he’s just constantly under attack. Things are going wrong and there’s probably been lots of human intervention since then. It’ll be interesting to see a more rugged, a bit more aged Kong in this film.”
This could mean some of the characters who have appeared in the previous films could show up for the big battle, however, this could also mean that the monsters Godzilla fights in King of the Monsters will once again wreak havoc in Godzilla vs. Kong.
Wingard has already called it a “massive monster brawl movie, with lots of monsters going crazy on each other.” The director also stressed that the fight will definitely have a winner.
Before Godzilla can fight Kong, viewers will get to check back in with him in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which stars Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Ziyi Zhang, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Ken Watanabe.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species – thought to be mere myths – rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
