Denzel Washington Returns to Broadway in ‘The Iceman Cometh’

Two time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington is set to once again conquer Broadway in the play The Iceman Cometh.

Washington will star as Theodore Hickman aka Hickey, with direction by George C. Wolfe.

The classic Eugene O’Neill play is set in Harry Hope’s dive on the West Side of Manhattan, a saloon populated with boozy social washouts awaiting Hickey for drinks all around and tall tales of selling on the road. Harry delivers as expected, but then announces his intention of curing his friends of the “pipe dreams” that keep them going.

Hickey has been played by everyone from Jason Robards to Kevin Spacey to Nathan Lane and James Earl Jones.

Five time Tony winner Wolfe most recently co-wrote and directed the HBO original movie The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, starring Oprah Winfrey.

Washington’s previous Broadway plays include Checkmates, Julius Caesar and Fences.

The Iceman Cometh is set to debut a 14 week run March 22, 2018 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
