The Patty Jenkins directed Wonder Woman film is set to become the eleventh superhero film in history to reach and surpass the $800 million mark at the worldwide box office.

On top of that, it’s only the second film of 2017 that has passed $400 million domestically thus far and will be the the fifth film in 2017 to pass $800 million worldwide.  Just a reminder: this is all for a film that was expected to only bring in roughly $50 million in its opening weekend.

The DCEU film is now the eighth highest-grossing film for Warner Bros. outside of the Harry Potter franchise and if the Potter films are included, Wonder Woman is 16 on the studio’s top-grossing film list, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II sitting in the top spot.

This latest Wonder Woman box office update comes fresh off the news that Jenkins is in the final phase of negotiations to return to direct the 2019 Wonder Woman sequel; a deal that may very well see Jenkins become the highest paid female director.

Add this to the alleged Oscar push that is being made by Warner Bros. for the film to be considered for Best Picture and Best Director, it’s safe to say that it’s been the summer of Wonder Woman.
