Early Talks Under Way for Obi-Wan Kenobi Solo ‘Star Wars’ Film

Lucasfilm is continuing its series of standalone Star Wars movies with a story focused on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award nominee Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Crown) is in very early talks to direct. If he takes the job, Daldry would work alongside Lucasfilm on development and writing.

In the original trilogy Alec Guinness played the legendary Jedi, who guided Luke on his path to defeat the Empire.

In the prequels, Ewan McGregor played the character from a padawan through his journey to Tatooine.

At this point, there is no word on whether McGregor would return to once again yield a light saber, though over the years he has expressed his openness to rejoin the franchise.

The success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story showed that fans are interested in more than just the ongoing Skywalker saga.

Up next in the franchise is Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which jumps into theaters Dec. 15. The young Han Solo movie flies onto the big screen May 25, 2018.
