Candice Patton Broke History Starring In The Most Viewed Issue Of NKD Magazine
While Barry and Team Flash get all the credit for saving Central City, the real glue of The Flash is Candice Patton’s Iris West.
In a record-breaking issue of NKD Magazine, Patton talked about her favorite aspects of playing the comic book heroine.
The actress was excited about the opportunity to join a superhero show right from the start.
“I was thrilled to be going in for a lead female role that isn’t traditionally played by an African-American,” she said. “And deep down, I always wanted to be a part of some superhero show or film.”

During the show’s first three seasons, Iris has been through a lot, and Patton enjoys portraying her courage.
“Iris is visibly fearless, even when she’s vulnerable,” she said. “Strong women are capable of experiencing fear, but then choose to find the strength to move forward. That’s what Iris does.”
Patton’s favorite thing about being Iris is her unwavering loyalty.
“She’ s loyal to Barry, to Wally, to her dad, and Team Flash,” she said. “She doesn’t have powers but that doesn’t get in the way of her trying to contribute. I think she’s a character that both men and women can admire.”
Starring Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker and Keiynan Lonsdale, The Flash’s fourth season premieres Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 pm on The CW.
