Last season’s finale of Suits saw Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) leaving the law firm for a new life in Chicago and it seems the talented lawyer will have a reunion with her friends from the firm when in the finale of season seven.
According to Variety, ending the show’s current season will take place in 2018 and will see Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle), Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) linking up with their old name-partner, Pearson.
Pearson will have to rely on her own legal prowess and the help of her friends to navigate through Chicago’s political world.
Jeff Wechtel, Chief Content Officer for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and President of Universal Productions had nothing but praise for Gina Torres and the spin-off. He told Variety:
“Gina Torres is a terrific actress and a valued member of our family. Gina and Aaron have created a truly memorable character in Jessica Pearson, and we felt we owed it to the audience – and ourselves! – to follow her journey beyond the original show.”
Suits creator, Aaron Korsh and executive producer, Daniel Arkin will write and executive produce the pilot, with Anton Cropper set to direct. Gene Klein, David Bartis and Doug Liman will also executive produce.
Ever since Suits debuted in 2011, Jessica Pearson has been a fan favorite, something that was acknowledged by Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. McCumber said:
“The powerhouse character of Jessica Pearson, expertly brought to life by the incomparable Gina Torres, has won the hearts of television fans everywhere. USA Network is beyond thrilled to work with Gina, Aaron Korsh, the entire ‘Suits’ producing team and our partners at UCP to explore the exciting next phase of Jessica’s story.”
