Can we all just give a well deserved applause to Netflix? The streaming service has been a leading source in entertainment for diversity, representation and inclusion in many of its original content (sideeye to Deathnote but that’s a different story).
Now Netflix is keeping that theme going as Deadline is reporting that the streaming service is apparently fast tracking a feature film starring Ali Wong and Randall Park. Besides the much anticipated Crazy Rich Asians film, there aren’t many comedic feature films with Asian American leads so this is great news. On top of that, Park and Wong are both hilarious and have been making headlines in their perspective careers through the years.
Park stars as the awkward yet funny dad in the ABC original comedy Fresh Off The Boat and Wong works as a writer/consultant on the same show but has also had parts in shows such as American Housewife and Black Box.
The film is currently untitled but is said to center around two childhood friends who find themselves in different socioeconomic situations when they fall in love as adults. The script was also written by Park, Wong and Michael Golamco who served as a writer and story editor for the sci-fi series Grimm. Netflix is apparently looking to hire a director as soon as possible. Does this sound like a film you’d want to see? Let us know in the comments below.
