Alison Bennett Set To Write The Pilot Episode of ‘HIMYM’ Spinoff

How I Met Your Mother ended in a bittersweet note, with a finale most of us wish hadn’t existed, and with the promise of a spinoff focussed on the journey of the mother to how she met the father… Only that it never happened.

Three years, and two failed attempts later, 20th Century Fox TV has found the writer for the pilot episode of How I Met Your Father. Her name is Alison Bennett and she’s better known for writing and producing You’re the Worst.

The first attempt of doing this spinoff came in 2014, right after the infamous finale, in the form of the CBS pilot How I Met Your Dad. It was written by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, alongside with Emily Spivey, creator of Up All Night. Greta Gerwig (Jackie) played the lead role and Meg Ryan was the narrator.

The second attempt came last year, when 20th Century Fox TV hired Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, This Is Us writer-producers.

Although the show is unlikely to revolve around Tracy and her story of how she met Ted (due to that finale and the episode called How your mother met me), it is known that it’ll revolve around a mother looking back on how she met the man who will turn out to be the father of her children.

Bays and Thomas will serve as executive producers of this show.
