Studio Ghibli Reopens for New Miyazaki Film
The critically acclaimed Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli is in the process of a new animated film spearheaded by the Oscar-winning director Hayao Miyazaki. His last film was released in 2013 titled The Wind Rises, an animated historical drama which was a fictionalized biopic of Jiro Horikosh. Shortly after that film was released, Miyazaki had announced his retirement and Studio Ghibli shut down.

Miyazaki has directed and written many beloved Japanese animated films that have been produced by Studio Ghibli. Classics include Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and the Oscar-winning Spirited Away. These films and more all have the distinct Studio Ghibli artistic style and story-telling narrative that have garnered worldwide acclaim and fans.
Now, Miyazaki has returned from his retirement, reopened Studio Ghibli, and they’re in the works of a new animated film. It is unclear at the time what the movie will be or when it will be released. Either way, fans can be excited for whatever is in the works as Miyazaki is back in the director’s seat.
