Smith will be starring alongside The Skate Kitchen, a real-life women’s skate group who inspired this film. Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Nina Moran, Ajani Russell, Kabrina Adams, and Jules Lorenzo make up this group. Orange is the New Black‘s Elizabeth Rodriguez has also been cast in the film.

“Inspired by events in the girls’ lives and written by Moselle, the now-untitled film will tell the story of Camille, a lonely suburban teenager whose life changes dramatically when she befriends a group of girl skateboarders. As she journeys into the raw New York City subculture, she begins to make choices that lead to a deeper understanding of herself. The film just finished principal photography”
This will be Moselle’s follow up to her debut feature The Wolfpack. The film premiered at Sundance in 2015 and it was awarded the US Documentary Grand Jury Prize. The biopic followed the lives of the Angulo brothers who are isolated from the world. The skateboarding film highlights Moselle’s interest in untold stories of unique and interesting people in New York City.
