Stephan Lang Returning As Villain For All Four ‘Avatar’ Sequels
Pre-Production officially began back in April for the next installment in the Avatar franchise. Many of the stars from the 2009 film are already confirmed to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequels and now that list of returning actors can add on more name to the roster. James Cameron has confirmed that Stephan Lang will be reprising his role as the villain for not only the next film but in all four Avatar sequels.
While speaking with Empire, Cameron explained his decision to keep Lang as the villain. Check out his response below:
“The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters. There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherf*cker through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park.”

It’s gonna be interesting to see how Cameron and his team have molded the story to make Stephan Lang’s character Commander Miles Quaritch the big baddie for every single movie. What’s also interesting is that Cameron has decided to film all four sequels back-to-back, kind of like what Peter Jackson did for the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy:
It’s one big story. But I would say a little bit different from The Lord Of The Rings, which you knew was a trilogy and that allowed you to accept a sort of truncated ending for movies one and two and then a fulfillment. This is a greater narrative broken up into four complete stories.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and CCH Pounder are all returning for the sequels. Are you excited for Lang’s over-arching villainy? How do you think his character will return after being shot in the chest by Saldana’s character Neytiri? Let us know in the comments below.
