During Young Justice’s two season tenure, we were treated with the spectacle of watching the young heroes grow with an ever-changing roster that started with inexperienced amateur heroes who would later form a cohesive team and then become mentors for the next wave of adolescent and teenage superheroes.

But, after the heart-breaking cancellation, we thought we would never see this heroic generation change ever again. But, after DC’s new streaming service was unveiled, we were treated with the unexpected announcement and conceptual art (which showcased new characters Spoiler, Arrowette, and Thirteen) of Young Justice: Outsiders, the long-awaited third season of the series. Now, in an interview with producers Brandon Vietti, Greg Weisman and character designer Philip Bourassa via Comicbook they discuss the new additions to the team.

According to Weisman, “two of those three aren’t actually new characters for us.” And that Arrowette was “introduced in Season 1 as Cissie King Jones. We didn’t name her but we named her dad Burnell Jones, so if you were comic book savvy… You could look up ‘who was that guy that got nearly assassinated.” And that Stephanie Brown was “saved from The Reach by Batgirl, Robin and Bumblebee” in Season 2.

And, as mentioned before in the article, Weisman went on to explain that the “show is very generational and so just as Kaldur’ahm was inspired by Aquaman, there’s a new generation inspired by the young heroes who were just kids themselves in Season 1.”
