Chiwetel Ejiofor in Talks to Voice Scar for Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lion King’

After widespread rumours of Hugh Jackman’s casting for Scar and nothing being announced at Disney’s D23 Expo, fans were not quite sure what to believe until a representative for Hugh Jackman shot down those rumours stating that there was “absolutely no truth” to them.

However, according to TheWrap’s sources we may have finally nailed down our Scar. Chiwetel Ejiofor is in talks to play the legendary lion in Disney’s live-action remake of the 1994 animated classic, Lion King. The iconic villain was voiced by Jeremy Irons in the animated version.

Chiwetel Ejiofor would join Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon and John Oliver as Zazu. The live-action will be directed by Jon Favreau. Ejiofor is an Oscar nominated actor for his role in 12 Years a Slave, the Best Picture winner of 2013.

At Disney’s D23 Expo, Jon Favreau surprised fans with the iconic “Circle of Life” opening scene in live-action with Rafiki holding newborn Simba above his head and presenting him to the animals of the Pridelands. If you have seen Favreau’s The Jungle Book, that should give you a good idea on what the animals in live-action The Lion King could look like. Given how incredible The Jungle Book was, I could not be more excited.

What do you guys think? Do you approve of Chiwetel Ejiofor for Scar?

The Lion King is expected to drop on July 19th, 2019.
