‘X-Men Dark Phoenix’: Summer Fontana Reportedly Cast As Young Grey

Production of Fox’s next comic-book ensemble film X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently under way in Montreal. With that, fans have received some cool and interesting news about the film’s ambitious plans. Cyclops actor Tye Sheridan will be sporting a new visor in the film, Jessica Chastain will reportedly be portraying the intergalactic Queen Lilandra and many franchise alums are reportedly returning to reprise their iconic roles as well as newcomers in undisclosed roles.

Now it is being reported that child actress Summer Fontana has been tapped to play an even younger Jean Grey in the film.

While her casting hasn’t been confirmed by the studio, the actress tweeted out a photo of her leaving Montreal which is where the project is being filmed. Fontana is also credited on IMDB under the cast list.

If Fontana looks familiar to you that’s because she can be seen on the CW original series The Originals where she plays Hope Mikaelson, a vampire-witch-werewolf tri-brid. Her character is powerful and deadly but still innocent. Kind of sounds like the same turmoil Jean Grey has to endure during the Dark Phoenix comic saga.

The film will be loosely based on the comic storyline of the same name and will be Fox’s second attempt at tackling the storyline since 2006’s abysmal X-Men: The Last Stand. Famke Janssen portrayed Jean Grey as having dual personalities but was more of a side story than a main plot point. This film will be Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut. What do you think of this casting GOC fam? Is it Lit or Sh*t? Let us know in the comments below.
