Sibongile Mlambo Cast as Series Regular in Freeform’s ‘Siren’

Based on a short story by Eric Wald and Dean White, Freeform has ordered ten hour-long episodes for the upcoming first season of this new show. Wald and White will serve as executive producers with Brad Luff, Nate Hopper, and RD Robb. Additionally, Finding Carter producer Emily Whitesell will be Siren’s showrunner and lead executive producer.
The show is officially described by the young adult television channel as such:
Siren takes us inside Bristol Cove — a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean.
Known for her previous work on Black Sails and her new role in Teen Wolf, Mlambo will portray the character of Donna, a “mystifying and deceptively powerful mermaid.”
In her new role, Mlambo will be joined by Game of Thrones star Eline Powell as the series lead, along with American Exorcism star Fola Evans-Akingbola, and Star Wars star Rena Owen. With the substantial number of women of color in lead recurring roles, Geeks of Color will definitely keep the show on our radar.
The first official trailer for the show has recently been released, which you can watch immediately below. Tell us what you think about Siren thus far in the comments!
