Jaume Collet-Serra Signs on to Direct ‘Jungle Cruise’

Warner Bros. loss is Disney’s gain as Jaume Collet-Serra has chosen to direct Jungle Cruise instead of Suicide Squad 2.

Collet-Serra was WB’s top choice to take over the DCEU sequel. However, he signed on for the Dwayne Johnson starrer based on the popular theme park ride.

There are no details on Jungle Cruise yet, but it stands to reason that the studio will take a similar path to its blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

For the unfamiliar, the Jungle Cruise takes riders on a dangerous (mechanical) river cruise where they see wild animals, dangerous traders and of course the back side of water. The ride is famous for its hilariously cheesy jokes. And frankly, they must all be included in the film.

As for Warner Bros., it must now restart its director search for Suicide Squad 2. Original director David Ayer is moving on to the Harley Quinn spinoff Gotham City Sirens.

The director’s chair is not the only thing up in the air on Suicide Squad 2. Recent interviews have shown that the actors involved are still unsure of whether they will return for the sequel.

In the meantime, Jungle Cruise is set to start filming late next spring.

Does the addition of Jaume Collet-Serra make you more excited about Jungle Cruise?
