Born Belcalis Almanzar on October 11, 1992, Bronx, NY native Cardi B is taking hip-hop by storm, rising to become one of the most notable female rappers in the game. After amassing a significant following through hilarious and unfiltered Instagram videos, Cardi joined the cast of Love and Hip Hop: New York before leaving after two seasons to focus on her music.
Her first full project, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1, was realeased March 7, 2016 with the second portion being released on January 20, 2017. The turning point in Cardi’s career came in February when she signed her first major record deal with Atlantic Records. Later that month, she was the opening act for the “Filthy America…It’s Beautiful” Tour, performing with hip-hop legends Remy Ma and Lil’ Kim. Her status as an up-and-coming artist to watch was solidified in June 2017 when she performed with female rap queens Remy Ma, MC Lyte, Young M.A., Monie Love, Lil’ Kim, Queen Latifah, and The Lady of Rage for Hot 97’s Summer Jam music festival.
Most recently, Atlantic Records released Cardi B’s first commercial single “Bodak Yellow” on June 16, 2017, inspired by rapper Kodak Black’s flow. The greatest milestone yet for this record was that it surpassed summer hit “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee on the Apple Music Chart for the week of July 27, 2017.
