Alan Ritchson Down to Play Shazam in Upcoming DCEU Flick

Smallville alum, Alan Ritchson seems enthusiastic about the prospect of playing Shazam in the hero’s upcoming solo film, slated for 2019.

When it was pointed out by a fan on Twitter that the DCEU concept/stock art looked like Ritchson, the actor replied in jest with the following:

However, this isn’t the first time that Ritchson has been linked to the role of Shazam. Back in 2016, he was asked if he was playing the superhero and replied with an emphatic “Yup!” on Twitter.

It’s interesting that the art looks like him and there have been rumors about this casting happening for nearly a year at this point, so it will be interesting to see what happens once more information about the movie is released.

What do you think – would you like to see Ritchson tackle the role of Shazam in the DCEU? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below.

One thing’s for sure, Ritchson is no stranger to playing the hero, having played Arthur Curry/Aquaman on Smallville and Justice League: The New Frontier (voice role). He also stars in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film franchise as Raphael. He definitely has the goods to pull off the role of Shazam.

For now, we will just have to wait and see how this all plays out. The Shazam film is scheduled for a 2019 release date.
