Jeff Goldblum Sheds Light on Grandmaster’s Role and Relationship with the Collector

Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, is one of the most highly-anticipated superhero films of 2017 and although November is still a few months away, the latest trailer has certainly upped everyone’s excitement.

During San Diego Comic Con last week, IGN had the chance to catch up with one of the film’s stars, Jeff Goldblum, to ask him about his role as the Grandmaster.

Until now, not much has been said about the Grandmaster, but Goldblum was able to share a little bit about his character. Goldblum told IGN:

“I’ve been around for millions of years, but no, no, I’m still, more than ever… I’m present and engaged and interested in everything in the moment. More than anything, I like to play. After billions of years, my wisdom and greatest thrill comes from playing and putting people together to have fun and stuff. So I put these two together for a massive match.”

Goldblum was also asked about the Grandmaster’s relationship with the Collector, to which he replied:

“I don’t know that it does. I don’t know that anyone mentions my brother, but I’m thinking about him, so it comes into play… and I also think that these matches — these gladiatorial matches — feed into my credo, which is, ‘Where there’s struggle, there’s life.’ And I love life!”

I for one am looking forward to seeing the Grandmaster on the big screen. How about you? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
