Damon Lindelof Has Not Met With HBO About Watchmen Series

Recently, a report spread that HBO had tapped Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof to develop a Watchmen television series based on Alan Moore’s seminal graphic novel. At the time, nothing was known about the series. Unfortunately, that is still very much the case. According to Lindelof himself, he has not met with HBO about a Watchmen show, and the news of his involvement caught even him off guard.

Lindelof debunked the rumor during an interview with TVLine (via Batman-News) last week during SDCC. While on vacation with family, Lindelof says he went without an internet connection for several days. Once able to reconnect to the rest of the world, he discovered he’d been bombarded with congratulatory emails regarding the purported Watchmen series. Lindeolf continues: “All I can say is that as of right now, I have not had any meeting with HBO about Watchmen.”

He adds that he’s been very vocal about his love of the source material and the ways in which it’s influenced him and his storytelling. The prospect of working on such a project is “interesting,” but “I have to weigh the balance of should it exist, before I decide to take it on,” Lindelof says. He admits that since the story broke, the idea has steadily been on his mind. Thoughts of whether a series spearheaded by him would be a disservice to Watchmen could one day make or break his decision to tackle such a venture. For now, this dream HBO series is not happening… at least not with Lindelof at the helm.
