Rick Famuyiwa May Soon Direct ‘Son of Shaolin’ Film
It seems like each day we hear of a new director who’s been tapped to adapt a graphic novel into a film or TV show. Who’s the director of the day? None other than the talented Rick Famuyiwa.
According to THR, Famuyiwa is in talks with Sony to bring Son of Shaolin, a popular modern graphic novel, to life on the big screen. Obviously nothing is set in stone just yet, but if Famuyiwa were to officially sign on, he’d be working with the likes of Dwayne Johnson (who will be producing the film), and also Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

For those who are unaware, Son of Shaolin is a series by Image Comics that follows the story of Kyrie, a struggling street artist who – after learning that he’s the last of a bloodline of Shaolin warriors – takes on the task of learning martial arts to prepare to take on a killer who will eventually come after him.
It’s an interesting property, and learning that Rick Famuyiwa might be helming it is great news. His work on Dope is what introduced a lot of people to him, and he was set to direct The Flash a while back, until creative differences with Warner Bros. We’ll just have to wait and see what becomes of this news. Make sure to follow us on twitter to stay updated.
