Sylvester Stallone says he is focused on the Creed sequel for MGM, and is writing the script.
He has been hinting at the plot suggesting that he will be pitting Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis with the son of Drago. Drago was the Russian heavyweight that killed Apollo Creed in the ring Rocky IV.
Ryan Coogler seems to be out of the loop since he is busy will Black Panther. Creed was written and directed by Coogler and he has mentioned in the past couple of years that he may not return to direct. MGM had their eyes set for a November 2017 release date, but things clearly were stalled since both Coogler and Jordan have been working on Black Panther.
Stallone wrote the entire Rocky franchise with the exception of Creed. Adjusted for inflation Rocky, Rocky III, Rocky IV, and Rocky II are the highest grossing Rocky films in that order before Creed. However, Creed leads the franchise as the highest rated film with 95%, Rocky follows with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It will be interesting to see how the Creed sequel develops, and whether we will see Ryan Coogler back behind the camera.
