The finale of season 2 left the show’s protagonist Elliot (portrayed by Rami Malek) in a bit of a cliffhanger.  He had just been duped by Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) and E Corp exec Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallström), and we find Elliot left bleeding from a gunshot wound.

But in an interview with EW, Esmail talks about the upcoming season of Mr. Robot, and we see that Elliot is doing just fine and living his life.  Esmail also reveals that “Season 3 is about Elliot trying to bounce back and fight against the people who have been using him. […] Elliot isn’t going to take this lying down.”  Apparently, the central theme of this season will be disintegration as Elliot learns more about Mr. Robot’s phase 2.

Esmail also shared that the E Corp exec will be returning in season 3 with a bigger part in the story.  Fans can expect to see just what he was up to during most his time away from season 2.

Mr. Robot season 3 will air in October and is expected to have ten episodes.
