John Boyega Is Okay With Fan-Fiction and Fan Art of Finn and Poe.

The Star Wars Universe is no strange to romance (Han and Leia, Anakin and Padme, although some people may complain about it) so is no surprise that in this new trilogy fans are imagining what couple will be the next big Star Wars couple.

Some say it could be Finn and Rey as aspects of the movie may have hinted a relationship, others are saying it’s between Rey and Kylo (or Ben Solo) and there are even those who want Poe and Rey together. But the ship (the couple) that has resonated with more fans due to the chemistry between the characters is the one of Poe and Finn.

Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) were introduced in the first instalment of this new trilogy (The Force Awakens) as a Stormtrooper rescues Poe, a pilot from the Resistance, that’s been captured by the First Order. Poe then proceeds to name the Stormtrooper as Finn.

In the movie, they’re separated as Finn believes Poe die in the crash and are reunited until almost the end, sharing a heartfelt hug and a jacket.

Nothing in the movie or in the promos for The Last Jedi have hinted at a romance between Finn and Poe, but that doesn’t mean fans are not hopping for their ship to be canon (official).

An openly gay couple in Star Wars would be something big, but even if FinnxPoe or Stormpilot (as the ship has been dubbed) doesn’t go canon, there’s always Fan Fiction.

Fan Fiction is no strange to any major franchise in the media, and every so often the stars that play the characters presented in fan-fiction or fan art are uncomfortable seeing those representations, wanting to do nothing with them.

While presenting Star Wars: The Last Jedi at D23, John Boyega was approached by Variety and asked how does he feel about Finn and Poe fan-fiction and fan art:

“I’ve seen pictures of me and my boy, y’know, Oscar Isaac butt naked in the shower and stuff. Now, we personally don’t do that but, you know, I am open and free to anyone having their own expression of art. This is all art at the end of the day, isn’t it? So is nice, is nice, whatever”.

So, there you have it, if you’re one of those shippers who dedicate hours to express their love for this couple and want to see them together, John Boyega is cool with it.

Whatever happens in the romance department in the Star Wars Universe, never insult anyone for the couple they ship, please always remember respect is the most important thing.
