‘IT’ Director Andy Muschietti Set to Helm ‘Robotech’ Adaptation for Sony

Mushietti’s film It will scare audiences in September, and the director has his follow-up film lined up. Sony has tapped Mushietti to direct Sony’s adaptation of Robotech.

“The story is set in a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology of an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific island and is now using that technology to fight off an impending alien invasion.”

The film has been a source of great interest in Hollywood for years. In 2007 Tobey Maguire was attached as producer with Warner Bros. In 2008 fames Star Wars writer, Lawrence Kasdan was hired to write the script. The script was passed around for a few years, then in 2015 Michael B Gordan was tapped to write the script. Sony acquired the rights in March 2015. James Wan was in talks to direct in 2016, and finally Sony has found it’s director in Muschietti.’

Muschietti stepped onto the scene with horror flick Mama, starring Jessica Chastain. His follow up film It will be in theatres September 8th. He was also tapped to direct the adaptation of video game Shadow of the Colossus.

Muschietti is building an impressive filmography for himself, with his horror background it will be interesting to see if he brings that knowledge to Robotech.
