As The Batman scraps its original script and revamps its entire story, it really seems like everyone from casual DC fans to entertainment industry heavy hitters are anxiously waiting for any news that will reveal director Matt Reeves’ casting and plot intentions for the reboot.
One of the people waiting on Batman news seems to be Aubrey Plaza. As well as being a fan of the Dark Knight, she wants to take her interest to the next level – specifically, she wants to play Catwoman in any upcoming adaptation of the character.
Plaza revealed her interest in a recent “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit. While there primarily to promote the film The Little Hours, a comedy also starring actors Dave Franco and Alison Brie, Plaza and crew opened the floor to a variety of different questions from fans.
One of the posters asked the crew which movie role they most wanted to play in the future, to which Plaza threw her hat into the Batman ring:
This isn’t the first time Plaza has spoken about playing Selina Kyle, as she made her interest very clear in an interview with Total Film back in 2014:
“I would [expletive] die to do something like that… There’s something so sexy and badass about Catwoman. I just think it’s the ultimate female role. You get to be a woman, but you also [can] destroy people, and you use all your female energy for evil. I just kind of love that.”
With a diverse repertoire of acting opportunities on the big and small screen, coupled with her command of dramatic and darkly comedic roles, Plaza would be a uniquely exciting fit for the popular Gotham cat burglar. She is also no stranger to the superhero genre, given her starring role in FX’s Marvel inspired show Legion.
As the Batman mythos slowly but surely unfurls onto the big screen, there are definitely several opportunities for the DCEU to premiere its version of Catwoman for which Plaza could campaign. Along with a potential appearance in The Batman, David Ayer is also making a Gotham City Sirens film which will star Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.
Only Margot Robbie has been confirmed to be in the film to reprise her role from Suicide Squad, but stars like Will Smith and Jessica Chastain have expressed their desire to join the cast as well. Additionally, there are rumors that Riley Keough has been cast as Poison Ivy, but it’s still too early in pre-production to know more concrete casting decisions.
What do you think about Aubrey Plaza as Catwoman? Do you want another actress for the role, and if so who? Let us know what you think in the comments!
