COMICS: Green Lantern Earth One Will Drastically Change Hal Jordan’s Origin

DC’s Earth One, a collection of tales which reintroduce a variety of DC Characters (Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the Teen Titans) into a more modernized setting and ground their origin stories, but still maintain their core traits and personalities.

Well, another character has been added to DC’s expansive roster of alternative equivalents….. GREEN LANTERN!

According to IGN, this new reinvention will now envision Hal Jordan as an astronaut who thrives for the thrill in discovery, yet instead of exploring intergalactic domains he is instead in charge of prospecting asteroids for a company known as Ferris Galactic, a lowly job in his mind. However, every thing changes when he finds a powerful ring which can construct whatever the user imagines.
Through investigation, Hal discovers the ring’s true origin as it belonged to the Green Lantern Corps, a group of individuals who were brutally slaughtered by machines known as The Manhunters. Due to this newfound knowledge, Hal Jordan has only one goal: Reinstate the Green Lantern Corps, no matter the cost.

Writer and artist Gabriel Hardman had this to say,

“Approaching this as an Earth One story gives us the opportunity to go back to the core concept of Green Lantern and interpret it through the lens of a modern, grounded sci-fi story while still being true to the Silver Age roots of Hal Jordan, having storyboarded Interstellar, this is an approach I’m comfortable with and have wanted to explore in comics. Realistic sci-fi is only the beginning of this story; we have something much more epic in store.”

Also, due to the drastic change in occupation for Hal Jordan (from experimental aircraft pilot to astronaut) means that Hal will “approach the ring’s power as a scientist but he’ll still use it for action and adventure”

Sounds pretty cool, huh? An Interstellar-inspired origin certainty hasn’t been done before and I personally can’t wait for this book!
