Lionsgate Close To Picking Up ‘Hellboy’ Reboot

After a bit of searching, it seems Lionsgate may be the new home for the Hellboy franchise.  They are currently in their final negotiations to officially house the next film.

The new movie installment, Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen will be starring David Harbour from Stranger Things as the titular demon character.  It will also be directed by Neil Marshall and will be produced by Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin as well as Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment.

Thus far, the Hellboy franchise has traveled to a few different studios with each installment at a different place.  The first movie was made by Revolution Studios and released in 2004 by Sony, and its sequel Hellboy: The Golden Army was made and released by Universal in 2008.  Both renditions starred Ron Perlman as the title character and were also both directed by Guillermo del Toro.  Del Toro and Perlman tried to create the third installment of the franchise but were unable to due to budgetary issues.

The comic and character were first created by Mike Mignola.
