James Gunn Teases Short List for Awesome Mix Vol. 3

It’s been a few months since the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in theatres, and thanks to the good response of both the critic and the audience, it’s been announced that director James Gunn is already working on Vol. 3.

Back in January, in an interview with E3, Gunn said that the first draft of the script was already done:

“I’m writing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and I finished the first draft of the treatment yesterday. I’m excited about it. I feel really great about it.”

Now, in his twitter account while answering fan’s questions, Gunn announced that the short list for the Awesome Mix Vol. 3 contains over 180 songs, although he didn’t specify which are the songs in it.

Of course, the finished list won’t have 181 songs, it’ll be shorter than that, but is comforting knowing that the pre-production of Vol. 3 is going smoothly.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s movies are known for their amazing soundtracks, with songs from the 70s and 80s that would lift you up and that have help the Guardians become as famous as they are right now. It’s not a GotG movie without an amazing soundtrack.

In Vol. 2 the songs fit perfectly with the narrative, carrying the scenes with their rhythm (James Gunn also previously stated how the soundtrack choice is directly intertwined with the story); so, it’s no surprise to anyone that people are wondering which songs are on James Gunn’s list.

[Possible spoiler] We won’t know for a long time which songs are on Gunn’s mind, but we can only imagine, since Peter now has a Zune music player the possibilities are endless. [Possible spoiler]

What do you think about this news? Which songs do you think are on James Gunn’s list?
