Alice Braga (Queen of the South) has been cast in Josh Boone’s New Mutants.

Braga will be taking on the role of Dr. Cecillia Reyes, a medical doctor of Puerto Rican descent. Her powers allow her to generate a psioplasmic bio-field around her, which she can manipulate into a weapon.

Braga is Brazilian, already that is a red flag since Reyes is a dark-skinned Puerto Rican in the comics. Dawson is of Puerto Rican and Cuban descent, she was a tad light for the roll, but otherwise well-suited.

It is unclear as to why Dawson left the project, one must wonder if Marvel has other plans for her character Claire in the Marvel Netflix shows.

Braga currently stars on USA’s Queen of the South, and has appeared in I Am Legend, Elysium, and recently The Shack.

Recent castings for the film include Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Mirage, and the rumor that Young Magik and Karma will join the roster. Anya Taylor-Joy (Spilt, The Witch), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) will be the central leads. The film is set to release April 13th 2018.
