Power Rangers Director Expresses Desire for Lord Zedd Appearance
With talks of a Power Rangers sequel in the making, this raises the question: which villain would be the star of the next film, following Elizabeth Banks’s stellar performance as the nefarious Rita Repulsa? Although the sequel is not yet confirmed, the post-credits scene of the first film incites opportunity to introduce Tommy, the Green Ranger, as well as the varying roster of villains from the many years of the franchise’s history.
According to Power Rangers director Dean Israelite, they would love to include more fan-favorite villains into the films. Seeing as the film was a reboot – with new rangers, suits, and backstories – there is nothing holding them back from reintroducing old faces to stay true to the Power Rangers roots.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Israelite revealed he’s got a villain in mind that he could be saving for a future sequel.
“You know, there was a lot of discussion at one point of Lord Zedd being in this movie. We didn’t have the real estate for it, and I didn’t want to dilute the storytelling, so Lord Zedd definitely has to make an appearance in the franchise, he’s a fan favorite.”
For those not as familiar with the original content, Lord Zedd might stand as the most prominent villain for the Power Rangers, serving as the main antagonist in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. He was the first American-made villain, having no roots in the Japanese origins of the show.
Unfortunately, in the show, Lord Zedd was required to be toned down due to their young audience. But, seeing as Power Rangers scored a rating of PG-13, introducing a villain such as Lord Zedd wouldn’t change the direction of the films.
If you havent’ yet, check out Power Rangers. It will be released in 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD June 27th, and let us know which villain you hope will make an appearance in the future.
