USA Today released an exclusive trailer for this film that you can watch here. The film features a suspenseful cat-and-mouse chase between Chan and Brosnan’s characters. The premise follows that Chan’s daughter was killed in a bombing. Now out for revenge, he seeks the names of the attackers from government institutes who refuse to help.
Chan also has a young daughter at 17 years old, and he explains “It was important for me to do a role that was more serious, with a lot of emotion. […] To prepare, I imagined what it would be like to be the father dealing with that situation.”

It is rare to see Chan act outside of a comedic role, but his skills as an action star are certainly heightened. Director Martin Campbell exclaims that “[Chan’s] playing a dead-straight role, a very quiet, determined old man with a singular focus of tracking down whoever killed his daughter.” Additionally, Chan’s fighting style was changed up a bit for this film; while his martial arts is one of the best, for his character Quan, he takes on a military approach to his fighting.
The Foreigner stars Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan and will be released in theaters on October 13.
