Ben Affleck is in the stage of his career where he can get pretty much any project he wants made. Specifically his strong relationship with Warner Bros. gives him extra leeway.
With that in mind, he and the studio have begun talking about a sequel to The Accountant. In the film Affleck plays an autistic accountant, who also happens to be a very skilled hitman.
The first film grossed $155 million worldwide which usually wouldn’t lead to a sequel, but Warner Bros. needs to keep Batman happy. Currently Affleck is one of the few bright spots in the still struggling DCEU.
Director Gavin O’Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque are also in talks to return. So the film would presumably have the same feel as the first one.
There is no word on a possible start date for The Accountant 2. Right now Affleck is working on reshoots for Justice League and still in early development on The Batman.
It’s also worth noting that the Academy Award winning writer/director is probably also thinking about what his next directorial project will be. All this means The Accountant follow-up might not happen right away, but it’s coming.
