This Just In: Ron Howard to Direct Upcoming ‘Han Solo’ Film
This week we received the news that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller had been let go from the Han Solo movie due to creative differences with Kathleen Kennedy. But Lucasfilm and Disney wasted no time in choosing their replacement.
On board to direct the currently untitled movie is none other than Academy Award winning director, Ron Howard. The official announcement from the studios is expected sometime this morning.
The news of Howard picking up the mantle of director for the Han Solo film comes just two days after the firing of Lord and Miller. The firing was shocking to many as the principal photography for the film was nearly finished and a firing of a director in such a late stage of production is almost unheard of.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Howard will meet with actors Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke to see what still needs to be done and to go over a rough edit after the sudden transition.

There’s no word yet on if the current shake-up will cause any delays. The Han Solo film has an expected release date of May 25, 2018.
