Production officially starts in Atlanta on Godzilla 2, with Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures putting out a press release announcing the full cast and synopsis. This installment is considered to be the “next capter” in the “cinematic Monster-Verse”, following 2014 Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla vs. Kong.
Michael Dougherty, director of Krampus is directing, and Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins will be reprising their roles. In addition, Vera Garmiga, Kyle Chandler, and Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown are joining the cast. The full cast also includes Bardley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Zhi.
According to the press release, the film’s synopsis is:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
The production team includes The Hangover cinematographer Lawrence Sher, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 production designer Scott Chambliss, Transformers editor Roger Barton, Life of Pi VFW supervisor Guillaume Rocheron, and X-Men costume designer Louise Migenbach.
The film’s initial title Godzilla: King of Monsters seems to be cancelled, and WB and Legendary have yet to release the official title.
