Season two of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow saw the show take on a lighter tone and allow the characters to deal with some of the more comedic aspects of time travel. Those elements were at their best when the Legends were forced to interact with real life figures.
That theme will continue in season three, with Billy Zane appearing as P.T. Barnum. Though he is more recognized for his dramatic roles, Zane is also great at over the top, larger than life characters. This makes him a good choice for the famed showman.
Executive producer Phil Klemmer knew Zane could do comedy after seeing him in a friend’s pilot.
“Truth is, Barnum never said ‘there’s a sucker born every minute,’” Klemmer said. “He was less a con man, more the father of modern advertising. A guy who made things ‘go viral’ before that was a thing. Sure, in one sense, he’s the villain of our story, but in another, he’s just a guy who wants to put on a good show.”
Though there’s no word on how Barnum meets the Legends, viewers can guess that he will be excited at the prospect of making money off of time travel.
Season three will see the Waverider crew fixing the problems caused by their interactions with themselves in the season two finale.
Starring Victor Garber, Caity Lotz, Arthur Darvill, Dominic Purcell, Brandon Routh, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe and Nick Zano, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns with new episodes Tuesday, October 10 at 9 pm on The CW.
