Marvel Comics Cancels Another Black Panther Spin-Off Series
The teaser trailer for Black Panther dropped with great praise and excitement, and Marvel Comic decided to respond with the cancellation of World Of Wakanda. The first comic series at Marvel to be written by two Black Women.

Written by Roxane Gay and Yona Harvey, the comic series followed the lives of a few members of the Dora Milaje. It was an intimate look at the women who make up the all-women security force, and a deeper look at the intricacies of Wakanda life. The comic added much needed depth to Wakanda civilization.
This cancellation follows the cancellation of Black Panther & the Crew. After two issues Marvel Comics cancelled the series. The Crew was made up of Black Panther, Storm, Luke Cage, and Misty Knight. Harlem was the backdrop of this story and revolved around the Civil Rights Movment in New York.
Needless to say, these two comic series were incredibly important, and their cancellations were due to poor sales. Which is understandable, why sell a product that readers are not interested in. I would argue the poor sales were due to poor advertising.
But why cancel these series now. The teaser trailer just dropped, and everyone is now hyped for Black Panther. The hype surrounding the film, and the women in particular is unlike anything Marvel has ever experienced. The film has put a spotlight on the Black Panther and Wakanda, wouldn’t it be smarter to advertise the comic series harder. Perhaps they should have hit pause on the two series, and reissue them. Piggyback of the success of the first teaser poster and trailer. Move from print to digital comics.
It is unfortunate to see such important comics get cancelled, but let’s show Marvel Comic that they dun goofed. Put your money where your mouth is. Show up for the movie, buy the merchandise, and buy every comic book that has the words “Black Panther”, “Wakanda”, and “Dora Milaje”.
