Victoria Mahoney Will Direct Freeform’s ‘Misfits’ Pilot

So it seems like whenever Hollywood decides to create their own version of a famous British TV show, it’s either a huge hit (The Office, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire) or a wide miss (SKINS, The Inbetweeners, The IT Crowd). The latest attempt at bringing a show from across the pond is Misfits, a show revolving a group of young deliquents who obtain superpowers due to a freak electrical storm which will air on Freeform.

It has just been announced that Victoria Mahoney will be directing the first episode, making it her pilot directing debut.

Mahoney started as an actress before made the transition to writing/directing with Yelling to the Sky, an independent coming-of-age drama dealing with family, racial identity and survival which starred Zoë Kravitz and Gabourey Sidibe and was named one of Filmmaker‘s 25 New Faces of Independent Film in 2010. She has also directed a short film titled Wrecked, as well as episodes of Queen Sugar, Claws, Greys Anatomy, and Survivor’s Remorse.

If the show gets picked up, the original show’s creator, Howard Overman, will executive produce with Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Diane Ruggiero-Wright. Fake Empire executive Lis Rowinski will serve as a co-executive producer and Ruggiero-Wright will serve as the showrunner.

Now that you know the pilot is in the hands of Mahoney, are you more likely to give it a chance? Let us know in the comments below!
